7. Do wall‑mounted bookshelves require anti‑tip devices?
No. Wall‑mounted bookshelves are not free‑standing CSUs and are explicitly excluded from ASTM F2057‑23. The standard’s scope does not cover shelving units, such as bookcases or entertainment furniture. However, you must still install them securely according to instructions using provided hardware. Improper installation could result in falling, causing injury or property damage.

8. Do narrow bedside tables require anti‑tip devices?
Generally, no. Bedside tables (nightstands) are typically excluded from ASTM F2057‑23 scope as “occasional/accent furniture not intended for bedroom use.” However, if a narrow bedside table meets the CSU criteria (≥27 inches tall, ≥30 lbs, ≥3.2 cu ft enclosed storage) and is intended for clothing storage, CSU requirements apply.
